My Novel "Alexein" - A Progress Report

Hey everyone! I'm thrilled to update you on my novel, Alexein: Alexander and Hephaestion, Part 1: Golden Dawn.

I initially envisioned a three-volume series, but it's shaping to be more like four! That's a good problem to have, right?

Volume 1: Golden Dawn is really taking shape. This volume focuses on the prophesied rise of the Greek conquerors, as seen through the eyes of the Persian Magi.

It’s a whirlwind of activity across Macedon, Greece, Persia, and Egypt, all building to Alexander’s birth.

The Oracle of Delphi plays a significant role, emphasizing the greatness prophesied for Philip II and Olympias's son, and we get to see the divine visions that shaped their lives.

Hephaestion's introduction is significant; he's genuinely Alexander's mortal armor in this story.

The writing flowed well; I'm nearly halfway through the first draft. The assassination of Philip II and Alexander's emotional ascension to the throne at age 20 are key moments that I'm particularly proud of.

I’m hoping to finish this first draft by the end of the year – I'm writing much faster than I anticipated!

Thank you to everyone who’s helped with historical research – it's been invaluable.

This wasn’t just about crafting a historical narrative but basing it on historical accuracy while still making it a compelling novel.

The fun part of writing this volume has been exploring the mysteries surrounding each character, challenging stereotypes, and offering a fresh perspective as a gay author.

It's been a journey of discovery – for me and, hopefully, for my readers!

Volume 2: Golden Shield picks up after Philip II's funeral, with Alexander's visit to Delphi and the start of his eastward march.

Hephaestion takes center stage in this volume, reflecting his role as Alexander's closest companion.

I've already detailed his early twenties, the Siege of Thebes, and the pivotal moment when Alexander meets Bagoas and Darius III's family on the battlefield.

Volume 3: Golden Sun will cover the Battle of Issus, Alexander’s entry into Egypt, the founding of Alexandria, and his journey into the Egyptian desert to consult the oracle.

This section will delve deeply into the world of Ancient Egypt, exploring its myths and the divine status Alexander attained as Pharaoh.

I’m incredibly excited about this part – I think I’ll nail the in-depth exploration of Egyptian myth and divinity.

Volume 4: Golden Horizon will encompass Alexander's conquests, his return to Babylon, and the events following his death.

Bagoas will guide the narrative to Alexander's final resting place in Alexandria.

This final volume is going to be intense – I’m both anxious and excited to write the climax and resolution.

The challenge will be containing Alexander's extensive conquests within a single volume. It might even push the series to five volumes. We'll see!

I'm incredibly grateful for all the support I've received so far. Stay tuned for more updates!
